Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy Approach & Clinical Style
- What does “neuroaffirming practice” mean in your service?
- We recognise neurodiversity as a natural and valuable form of human variation. Our therapy avoids compliance-based approaches and instead focuses on autonomy, sensory needs, communication preferences, and supporting individuals to thrive in ways that feel authentic to them.
- Do you use goal-directed or capacity-building therapy?
- Yes. Our therapy is collaborative and capacity-building, meaning we work alongside participants to develop skills, strategies, and supports that enhance everyday participation and independence.
- Do you provide trauma-informed care?
- Yes. Our team incorporates trauma-informed principles, including safety, choice, empowerment, and respect for lived experience.
Session Structure & Expectations
- What happens in a typical therapy session?
- Sessions are tailored to each person but may include skill-building, sensory exploration, problem-solving, environmental adjustments, assistive technology trials, or strategy development.
- Do you provide home programs or between-session supports?
- Yes. When appropriate, we offer personalised strategies, resources, or routines to support progress between sessions.
- Can sessions be flexible based on energy levels or sensory needs?
- Absolutely. We adapt session length, pace, and structure to honour the participant’s comfort, sensory profile, and capacity on the day.
Communication & Accessibility
- Do you support alternative communication methods?
- Yes. Participants are welcome to communicate in any way that suits them — verbally, through AAC, typing, writing, gestures, or visual supports.
- Can I request adjustments for communication or sensory needs?
- Definitely. We encourage participants to let us know what helps them feel safe, comfortable, and understood.
Collaboration & Support Network
- Do you collaborate with support coordinators or other providers?
- Yes. With consent, we can communicate with support coordinators, psychologists, GPs, schools, employers, and other allied health professionals to ensure consistent, holistic support.
- Can support workers or family attend sessions?
- Yes. Participants may involve trusted people if they choose.
Assistive Technology (AT)
- Do you complete Assistive Technology (AT) assessments and reports?
- Yes. We can assess AT needs, trial equipment, and provide NDIS-ready evidence to support funding applications.
- Do you help with AT trials and vendor coordination?
- Yes. We can assist with trial bookings, vendor communication, and recommendations based on functional needs.
Scheduling & Availability
- How often are therapy sessions scheduled?
- Frequency is based on goals, needs, and NDIS funding. Some participants attend weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, while others engage in short-term or block-based therapy.
- Can I request a specific therapist?
- Where possible, we match participants with a therapist whose skills and approach align with their needs. If a match isn’t available, we will discuss alternatives.
Documentation & Reports
- Do you provide progress reports for NDIS reviews?
- Yes. We can prepare progress summaries or supporting documentation when required, depending on the participant’s goals and funding.
- Can I request additional documentation outside of assessments?
- Yes. Additional reports or letters can be provided upon request and may incur a fee in line with NDIS guidelines.
Cultural Safety & Inclusivity
- Do you work with LGBTQIA+ participants?
- Yes. We are committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals.
- Do you support culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) participants?
- Yes. We welcome participants from all cultural backgrounds and can incorporate cultural considerations into therapy. Interpreters can be arranged if needed.
Service Boundaries
- Do you provide crisis or emergency support?
- No. We are not a crisis service. If someone is in immediate danger or requires urgent mental health support, we encourage contacting emergency services or crisis support lines.
- Do you provide behavioural intervention or restrictive practice assessments?
- No. We do not provide behaviour support plans or restrictive practice authorisation. We can refer to appropriate providers if needed.
